Abstract The study examined academic workload and internal efficiency in University of Lagos, Akoka. Three research questions and three hypotheses were answered and tested. The descriptive survey research design was used. A self-structured questionnaire was used for data collection. The sample of the study comprised 127 lecturers selected from the eight Departments in the Faculty of Education, University of Lagos. Pearson Product Moment Correlation (r) statistical tool was used at 0.05 level of significance was used for hypotheses The findings revealed that there is a significant relationship between academic staff participation in part-time programmes and internal efficiency in University of lagos among others. Based on the findings made, this study recommended among others that the Federal and State Governments should employ more academic staff to reduce the number of courses assigned to each lecturer per semester. Also, there should be adequate documentation and policies of academic workload and all academic staff should be aware of this to guide their performance in the various activities.
